About Coach Edgar

Coach Edgar Garcia is the head instructor at Roadrunner BJJ. Born and raised in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood, Edgar began his martial arts journey in Muay Thai before discovering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. What began as an outlet for discipline and physical fitness quickly evolved into a passion for testing himself through competition, advancing through the belt ranks, and constantly seeking new challenges.

Now a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Edgar brings years of competition experience to the mats. In 2025, he competed in the European Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championships. For Edgar, Jiu-Jitsu is not just training—it’s about the pursuit of mastery, resilience, and the ability to stay sharp mentally and physically.

Fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese, he is able to connect with students and families across cultures, but his core teaching style is universal: structured, disciplined, and challenge-driven.

Teaching Philosophy

At Roadrunner BJJ, we believe every student can grow through discipline, focus, and resilience. Our programs are designed to meet you where you are — whether your child is learning respect and confidence, or you’re an adult sharpening skills and staying active. Each class builds habits that carry far beyond the mats.
